How my journey began

As a Queer Puerto Rican born to a teen mom in a poor family, much of my early life was about overcoming adversity. I spent years proving myself working as an early employee at companies like Square, Yelp Reservations, and Asana. I didn’t realize that, in focusing on my career, I was ignoring my culture and identity. I had created a lot of “success” for myself, but it was also incredibly difficult and lonely to be in spaces where I was often the only person of color or the only queer person in the room.

That feeling of loneliness set me on a path to connect with others who could understand and empathize with my experience.

I learned that community is critical to success.

Now, I am taking these lessons about the importance of identity and community in creating your success and leveraging them to lift up Latinx and LGBTIA+ folx in the tech sector.

I believe that our power comes from our connections and fully embracing who you are allows you to BE your full self. I believe that our stories matter. I believe that we matter. I believe that we belong in tech as much as we belong anywhere.

I believe that those of us who already work in tech can be the representation we need in senior leadership roles. We can EVOLVE ourselves to become stronger leaders who stay connected to community and work to shift systems to make them more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

I believe you are already a part of this important work and are already having an impact.

I believe all of this because I’ve seen it through my own transformative experiences.

Don’t forget the key ingredient in your success. You.
